Wines of the Rhône Valley
At our inaugural meeting, we tasted a variety of wines from the Rhône Valley, including a spectacular 2004 Châteauneuf-du-Pape.

As Wine Folly so perfectly captured the experience of a great Cabernet, “Imagine you’ve filled a new leather bag with a pound of black cherries and held it to your chest while rolling down a hill. Yum.” We rolled down that hill alright – tasting Cabs from South Africa, Columbia Valley, France and Napa Valley.
Acqua al 2 welcomed us into their private dining room for a night filled with delicious Italian bites paired perfectly with wine from all over Italy. Our first night out on the town was molto buono to say the least.
Don’t get us wrong, we love a glass (or two) of classic French Champagne. So we had a little of that, and then expanded our fizzy palettes at our March event, sipping bubbles from Spain, Italy, Oregon and Virginia. Cheers to that!
Pinot Noir: It’s delicate, fickle and tough to grow. But when some winemakers get it right, they get it really right. At our May event, we set up shop in the beautiful private tasting room at Domaine Wine Storage, a luxury wine storage facility in DC. We tasted Pinots from Burgundy, New Zealand, California and Oregon.
Sometimes there’s nothing more refreshing that a glass of white wine on a warm Summer evening. On one particularly beautiful Summer evening in Sandra’s back patio, we sampled a variety of white wines, from a South African Sauvignon Blanc to a Virginian Viognier. Everyone walked away with a new Summer staple.
Our first day trip took us to Early Mountain Vineyards, located in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. We sampled the finest wines Virginia has to offer, and enjoyed lunch in a private tasting room.
Thanks to our fantastic sponsor, Swirl & Sip, we tasted wines from all over Spain and sampled delicious Mediterranean tapas.
We had so much fun sipping and socializing at Georgetown’s newest boutique hotel, The Graham.
We celebrated our one year anniversary by tasting wines from Argentina, Chile and even Uruguay!
A small group of Divas set out to Shepherdstown, West Virginia for a cozy night of gourmet food and exclusive wine pairings from Sandra’s private cellar. What a treat!
In February, the Fine Wine Divas gathered at wine boutique DCanter to learn the ins and outs of navigating a wine shop. From understanding how their wines are organized, to learning how to decipher wine labels to figure out what you like, we covered it all and got to taste some delicious wines along the way!
In March, we reconvened at The Graham Hotel in Georgetown for a night with Cape Classics, the premier South African wine importer in the U.S. We tasted 8 wines, perfectly paired with delicious spring menu offerings from the A.G.B. Restaurant at The Graham. What a fun night!
We returned to The Graham Hotel to educate ourselves about the lesser known appellations of France: Loire Valley, Alsace, Langeudoc, and Provence, among others. We had such a great time, and enjoyed welcoming a few new Divas to our group!
Diva Judith Batty was kind enough to host us in her beautiful home in Washington, DC. We enjoyed Thai, Chinese, Mexican and African American Soul Food take out from some of our favorite restaurants, and learned how to pair wines with each dish.
Some Divas prefer red wine, and that’s ok! But, at this event, we are proud to say that everyone found a white wine that they really enjoyed. Whether it was the lush Pouilly-Fuisse or the crisp and refreshing Vermentino, it was fun to try varieties that were new and different to us.
On a rainy night in October, we settled in for a cozy fall meal and lots of delicious wines from down under! We found a few new wines (namely, a sparkling Shiraz and a spicy Grenache) that would be perfect accompaniments to our Thanksgiving tables!
